The companies with the Top 50 Best Annual Reports were honoured in a ceremony for the 2016 Vietnam Annual Report Awards, jointly organised by the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange, the Vietnam Investment Review and Dragon Capital Group. The winners were the best reports from among 136 finalists, selected from 600 eligible reports of listed companies on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HSX) and Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX). Among the winners, 34 reports were from firms listed on the HSX and 16 on the HNX.
What key authorities said about the event:
“The inclusion of sustainability information in annual reports is not yet compulsory, but many companies have already done so this year. It shows that listed firms have realised the importance of sustainability and are willing to incorporate this section into their reports. Listed companies can act as pioneers in sustainability development, spreading awareness to the entire business community in Vietnam. This is important since sustainability is vital in many governmental policies nowadays.” Mrs. Ngo Viet Hoang Giao, BOD member and Deputy CEO of HSX, Co-head of the Organising Committee
“It will even be better if firms provide not only clear details on their business results and financial health, but also showcase their commitment to society and Vietnam’s sustainability”, Mr. Le Trong Minh, VIR’s Editor-in-Chief, Co-head of the Organising Committee
“Investors are now unlikely to pour capital into a firm with detrimental actions to the environment and society or low standards of corporate governance. Vietnamese firms should set up their own policies for sustainability and corporate governance, as well as designating a specific team to deliver these goals”, Mr. Pham Nguyen Vinh, Business Development Director, Dragon Capital
“Many firms have understood that sustainability reporting should include the entire scope of social and environmental activities rather than merely charitable programs. Most companies with top-notch sustainability reporting last year continued to uphold their excellence this year.”, Mr. To Vi Hung, ACCA member, Head of the SRA Selection Board.
